Snowmelt up the mountain, then a wet port in the lot

Bear Valley Electric Service covers Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City. Its service area also names Sugarloaf, Moonridge, Fawnskin, and Boulder Bay. That’s the mountain utility up there, not Southern California Edison. Lake Arrowhead and Crestline sit on SCE’s mountain side instead. The meter on the wall doesn’t change a wet port. A wet housing is a wet housing on either system.
Heading home toward Highland, cabin heat is often still up. The same thing happens on I-10 through Redlands. The port door may still sit unlatched. That’s when a lot of drivers first see beads in the ring. Close the door on the mountain if you’re not plugging in. Wipe it before you plug in at the bottom. A run down I-15 through Cajon toward Hesperia won’t dry a pooled port. Wind on the grade sheds spray off the body. It doesn’t pull standing water off the pins.
A summer wash does the same job in the valley
Heat across Riverside, Fontana, Ontario, and Corona puts cars through wash bays all week. High-pressure arches and underbody jets push water past a door that isn’t fully seated. Warehouse rows in Fontana catch landscaping overspray at shift change. Riverside Public Utilities has served the city of Riverside since 1895. Colton owns the electrical infrastructure inside its own city limits. None of those utilities will dry your port.
An older San Bernardino driveway sprinkler can soak a port facing the lawn. Redlands lots see the same overspray on a port that faces the grass. ACS 2019-2023 figures put pre-1980 housing at 60.9% in San Bernardino. Redlands sits at 60.4% on the same vintage. Older tracts have had more years of heads near the curb.
A High Desert curb in Victorville or Hesperia is a different wait. Wipe the port first in both climates before you plug in. Moreno Valley splits between SCE and Moreno Valley Utility in newer tracts. Rancho Cucamonga has a small municipal pocket around Victoria Gardens and Day Creek. Your bill’s logo doesn’t change this step.

Skip hair dryers, heat guns, and a cabin vent aimed at the housing. Heat warps plastic and can hurt a seal worse than the water did. Shade with a breeze is enough to finish the job.
On a High Desert curb the air does most of the work. In a Big Bear stall after a storm, give it the full wait. Snowmelt is cold and slow, and a valley wash is already moving. Both still need a dry look before the plug goes in.
Once the housing looks dry, plug in and watch the first seconds. A session that starts and holds is the port doing its job. A session that starts, stops, and throws an error is your cue to quit. A door that won’t latch after the wipe needs a look, not another retry.

Signs this is more than a wet ring
A few signals mean you should stop charging in a lot. A burning or plastic smell at the port. The same connector faulting after the housing looks dry. A door that won’t close flush. Corrosion you can see on a pin. Those are inspection items, not a microfiber job in a Fontana warehouse stall. Same rule at a Cabazon destination lot.
